Agios Georgios is located north of Voulismeni, in the Pera Mera area, about one hundred meters below Agios Onoufrios.
It is a single-aisled basilica, built on the slope of the same hill, in a location linked to the village’s ancient religious landscape. Its proximity to Agios Onoufrios makes the area particularly interesting for those who wish to explore the historic ecclesiastical sites of Voulismeni.
According to local tradition, monks once lived at Agios Georgios, a fact that gives the church a distinctive character and links it to the area’s early monastic life.
Around Agios Georgios, religious traditions from Voulismeni have also been preserved, such as the “thromyli” of Agios Georgios, the “antilarida” of Saint George, and the “spongato” of Saint George. Through these narratives, the church is presented not only as a place of worship but also as a site of living folk memory.
The Church of Saint George in Pera Mera is a quiet and significant landmark in Voulismeni. Together with Agios Onoufrios, it forms a short religious walking route on the hillside, where faith, tradition, and the natural landscape come together.
