Voulismeni has been known by its current name since 1248. Its name is associated with “voulimas,” meaning subsidence or a geological phenomenon, as well as with the waters that flow beneath the area and drain into the sea.

Oral tradition preserves other names for the village, such as Archontochori, Myrismeni, and Mikro Parisaki. These names reflect the image that Voulismeni had in the wider region: a beautiful, lively, and beloved village.
